The Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering was  instituted in the year 1993 to start a 4-year B.E. degree programme affiliated to the Madurai Kamarajar University. The first batch of students graduated from the department in the year 1997. A post graduate programme leading to M.E. degree in ‘Digital Communication and Networking’ was introduced in the year 2001. Consequent upon the integration of all engineering colleges under Anna University, Chennai, the affiliation both programmes were shifted to the Anna University from 2002 onwards. Based on the infrastructure and faculty strength the department was recognized as research centre by Anna University in 2003 to offer M.S (by Research) and PhD programs in the area of Electronics and Communication Engineering
